About this product
The primer the Novalk cabinet system is built on. 917B is a high-build white primer (about 60% solids) with a tannin-blocking additive, so oak, cherry and previously stained doors don't bleed through a white topcoat. It is thixotropic, which means it hangs on a vertical door without sagging, and it dries fast enough that a second coat can go on wet-on-wet. When it's dry it sands like chalk. Two coats over a scuff-sanded surface, a 320-grit sand, and the door is ready for topcoat.
Where it fits. First coat on scuff-sanded factory finishes, raw wood and stained cabinetry, under any Novalk water-based white topcoat (932, 934, 982). On badly stained or water-marked wood, put a coat of the 951 isolator underneath.
Mixing. Use it straight from the can as a 1K primer, or add 5% hardener by volume for extra adhesion and blocking:
- NCW-80: about 3 hours of pot life
- NCW-105 long pot life: 4.5 hours or more
Application. Apply at 4 to 5 wet mils.
- Airless: 308/408 or 310/410 fine-finish tip at 1,600 to 2,100 psi
- HVLP: 4- or 5-stage turbine minimum, 1.8 or 2.0 needle
- Reduce 5 to 10% with warm water or 1034 flow additive only if the gun needs it
Interior use. Low VOC, zero emissions, water clean-up. White, or a tint base for colored primer under deep topcoats. Stocked in 5 KG and 25 KG.
