About this product
Novo-Shield is the first coat on exterior wood. A clear, ready-to-use water-based impregnating agent that soaks into the grain instead of sitting on top of it, carrying IPBC (a wood-protecting fungicide) and UV filters into the wood before the film-forming topcoat goes on. About 12% solids, so it penetrates deep and recoats easily when the wood needs maintenance years later. 30 g/L VOC.
Where it fits. Exterior doors, windows, shutters, outdoor furniture and trim in pine, fir, cedar and hardwoods, under Novalk 885 or 892 exterior topcoats. On its own it is a low-build penetrating stain; with a topcoat over it, it is the protection layer the topcoat can't provide.
Color. Clear as supplied, and a transparent base for exterior wood tones: tint up to 5% with NPW water-based pigments. Novalk offers it in eighteen standard colors.
Application. Spray, dip, flow-coat, brush or roll. Two to three thin coats at 2 to 3 wet mils, or a single heavier coat on rough-sawn wood. Reduce up to 10% with water if needed.
Dry times at 2 to 3 wet mils: dust-free 10 minutes, handle 30 minutes, overcoat 2 to 4 hours. Surface, product and air above 53°F.
Exterior use. Water clean-up. 4 KG.
